Banyan Education, based in New York City, serves the mission of teaching meditation, promoting uplifting causes, and helping people of all walks of life access their inner greatness. We are a network of teachers, healers, and other professionals that strive to embody integrity, excellence, and love in our work. We are also the clients and students- the men, women, and children practicing meditation, learning together, and seeking to make the world a better place one heart, one home at a time.

Tremendous peace, inexhaustible power, and boundless freedom live within the heart of every person. Our mission is to help people connect with this power inside of them, bring it out, and make a place for it in their lives. We teach the ancient practice of sitting meditation to individuals and create dynamic, unique workshops and learning events for special groups, companies, and the general public. We work with hospital patients, the families of patients, and with people who are terminally ill. We work in partnership with educational and charitable organizations aimed at uplifting people's lives with their work.

We recognize that every individual grows in a completely unique and perfect manner. We endeavor to reflect this understanding in everything we do.

In India, our sister company is known as Adhishtana Living Ltd. The Sanskrit word adhishtana means "the most basic support". In our context, the adhishtana refers to our deepest self, and the energy that links and sustains us all.

the Banyan Tree

The banyan tree (Ficus bengalensis) is considered sacred throughout Asia. Its seeds are tiny but the trees they produce can become gigantic. The branches of a banyan send down thin aerial roots which then grow into the earth to become new trunks. The largest banyan tree, living in Sri Lanka, is said to have 350 major trunks and more than 3000 smaller ones.

For centuries, the banyan has served as a symbol for spiritual education and enlightenment. We call our firm Banyan to represent living networks, inner wisdom, strength, and dynamic growth.
